The Late Shows wins Best Event Tyneside at the Journal Culture Awards

Tyneside's popular after-hours culture crawl The Late Shows has won the prize for Best Event Tyneside at the prestigious Journal Culture Awards.

The ceremony took place at Hexham Abbey on Thursday 11 May and celebrated the very best of culture in North East England, with hundreds in attendance.

2016's 10th anniversary edition of The Late Shows took the Best Event Tyneside award despite very strong competition from The Playground Project at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and Vinyl Icons - Persian Pop and Turkish Psychedelia at Vane Gallery.

The win caps an incredible 10 years for The Late Shows which has seen the event rise to become a staple of the region's cultural calendar.

The Late Shows is co-ordinated by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums and supported by Port of Tyne and Sofa Workshop.

2017's event takes place on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 May.
