In 2017, Kate Stobbart held a collective single scream live event to mark the inauguration of Donald Trump’s first presidency at the NewBridge Project, Newcastle upon Tyne. This time we prepare for the sequel. As part of The Late Shows 2026, Stobbart presents a new live event on the Top Floor Terrace at Cobalt Studios. This follow-up performance invites the public to join a collective single scream to mark the progress of Donald Trump’s continued presidency.
Through group performance, Stobbart navigates the tension between absurdist humour and acute political anxiety. The work invites viewers to confront the boundary between the private internal struggle and the public outward expression. In a landscape often defined by helplessness and the feeling of having no voice, this collective act provides a visceral, shared release. It reflects our unsettling times - raising questions about collective agency, the power of protest, and how we choose to signal our presence in an increasingly polarised world.
Newcastle-based artist, Stobbart’s practice spans video, sculpture, and live events. This piece sits as part of an evolving body of work exploring ambiguous, subtle (and in this case not-so-subtle) ways in which people communicate through speech, sound, and body movements.
