As part of the Late Shows weekend, drop in to St Mary’s Heritage Centre in Gateshead for the St Mary’s Pageant. Discover some of the many historic characters who have been involved with St Mary’s, miraculously returned to life and just waiting to entertain you with their stories. Come and meet Barbara Coulson the work worn church cleaner, the enthusiastic Mrs Prest, Vicar’s wife and sanctimonious Bishop Walcher - put to death by the people of Gateshead in 1080. In deference to one of the Graveyard’s famous inhabitants the stone mason, we have Russ Coleman as artist in residence for the evening, demonstrating the art of the master stone carver, with a chance to try your own hand with the chisel.
