Dunston Staiths is the last remaining staith on the Tyne – large structures built to transfer coal from trains to collier ships. After its closure in 1980, Dunston Staiths has become a haven for local wildlife and is part of the Tyne Derwent Way, celebrating local heritage, arts, and culture.

Dunston Staiths will open in the evening especially for The Late Shows. Views of the River Tyne from the iconic structure and its environs are stunning and well worth seeing. The Staiths opened in 1893 to enable trains to load coal onto boats on the Tyne. Tyne & Wear Building Preservation Trust now owns the structure and aims to make it a sustainable visitor attraction, thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and English Heritage.
