A fine example of 16th and 17th century Jacobean domestic architecture with an incredibly rich history. The site is managed by English Heritage. Come and explore Bessie Surtees House, a unique group of buildings from Tudor Newcastle, located at the heart of the city’s historic quayside. Take the opportunity to visit our fascinating new exhibition ‘Picturing England’ which presents 150 years of English History through stunning archive photography before visiting Dr Twist’s Photographarium to sit for your very own traditional sepia portrait, in full historic costume. Book a guided tour to explore behind the scenes in the rooms not normally open to the public and find out more about the work of Historic England Crafting, quizzes and more. Tours must be pre-booked via 0191 269 1255. Additional charge for sepia portraits £2.50 per person.
